Did you know you had an ally in your battle with extra weight? I’m not talking about any friend you have, or your spouse, or even myself and Dr. Scott – although hopefully you do have lots of support there. I know Dr. Scott and I are behind you 100%!

I’m talking about an ally that really has the power to help you succeed. Get this amazing partner on board, and your efforts will be many times more effective.

Who am I talking about? You may have already guessed since we’ve talked about it before. That’s right – I’m talking about your brain.

On Saturday, the action plan was to spend some time thinking about your self image and how it’s impacted your struggles. Today, I’m going to show you what to do with what you discovered.

When we lose weight only to gain it right back, it reinforces to our subconscious that we are meant to be overweight. Experience is a powerful teacher, and our brain is a fast learner. Every time we’ve repeated the cycle the image has become more firmly entrenched.

So now, as we discussed on Saturday, our subconscious causes us to act in ways that are in line with our overweight self image. And the only way we are ever going to be successful is to change that self image. Until we do, we are going to continue to find ourselves engaging in behaviors that sabotage our efforts.

So, the question becomes: How do you change your self image so you can start behaving in ways that support your weight loss efforts?

To answer that, we’ll have to take a quick look at how your brain works. I said earlier that experience is a powerful teacher – in fact, it’s the most effective way to truly learn. A lesson learned through experience will shape you far more profoundly than any book or theory.

Unfortunately, we can’t wait until we get to experience being thin to teach our subconscious to see ourselves that way. But the great thing is, we don’t have to.

You see, scientists have conducted lots of studies into the power of your mind. And one of the things they’ve discovered is that our brain can’t always tell the difference between things that are real and things that are vividly imagined.

For example: sometimes researchers will ask a volunteer to vividly imagine being in the arctic cold. As the subject begins to see herself in a frozen wasteland, buffeted by icy winds and standing knee-deep in snow, something fascinating happens: Her body temperature really drops.

Her brain lives the experience as if it’s really happening, even though it’s just her imagination. And her body reacts accordingly.

And this is the key to putting the power of your mind to work in your weight loss efforts.

You can convince your subconscious to see you as a thin and healthy person by vividly imagining it over and over. Little by little, your brain begins to believe you’re supposed to be thin, so it begins steering you into habits and actions that fit that image.

Now I’ll be honest, when I first heard this I thought it was just wishful-thinking nonsense. Then I read about the hard science behind it and decided to give it a try – and I’m here to tell you, it works!

Suddenly, instead of fighting some invisible force that seems determined to make you fail, sticking with your plan is somehow easier. That invisible force gets on your side and helps push you toward success instead of failure.

Think you could use an ally like that in your corner? Of course you could!

So Today’s action plan is to spend 30 minutes imagining yourself as thin and healthy. Be as vivid as possible in your dreams – see the clothes you’re wearing, the activities you’re doing. Try to smell the perfume you’re wearing, or the healthy foods you’re eating. Feel the warm sun on your face as you live a healthy lifestyle. See the looks of appreciation in the eyes of the opposite sex. Hear the compliments you receive.

Repeat this exercise every day for a month. Build on your image and get more and more detailed with it. The more vivid the imagination, the more effective for your subconscious.

We’ll be talking a lot more about the power of your mind, and how to make it your ally in your weight loss battle at our upcoming webinar. And time is running out to register – only 5 days left until the cutoff!
